The British news agency Reuters quoted Iranian state media as saying that the quake hit the city of Damavand in the northern Iranian province of Mazandaran. The magnitude of the quake was recorded at 5.1.
According to the report, the tremors were felt late at night after which a series of aftershocks continued. The tremors left people in fear outside their homes for the rest of the night, including a 21-year-old girl and a 60-year-old man.
Authorities have been urging people outside their homes to follow the rules of social distance to protect them from the corona virus.
