Indian police have registered a case of treason against Tafarul Islam, head of a minority commission investigating anti-Muslim riots in Delhi. In a tweet last week, he thanked the Kuwaiti government for standing with Muslims against the Delhi riots.
Police allege in the FIR that he tried to spread provocation on Twitter and create division in the society.
Zafarul Islam said in a reply tweet that he did not delete the statement. They still stand their ground.
The Popular Front of India and the Jamaat-e-Islami of India have strongly condemned the treason case against Zafarul Islam Khan and demanded its withdrawal, while dozens of prominent personalities and human rights leaders, including Akshay Kumar, have also backed Zafarul Islam.
